SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR EMERGING ARTISTS OF COLOR

Organized by the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts Volunteers, the Arts Alive festival is held in downtown Florence, Alabama each spring. On May 17 and 18, 2025, Wilson Park will become one of the largest art markets in the region as up to 100 juried artists and fine craftspeople sell their work from colorful booths.

The purpose of the Arts Alive festival is to raise money for workshops and scholarships for art teachers and students in northwest Alabama, and it is a goal of the committee to create an event that is representative of the entire community.

As a step toward achieving that goal, the Arts Alive festival committee offers four annual scholarships to artists of color who are working to establish themselves as professional artists. It is the collective hope of the committee that these scholarships will help to eliminate costly barriers commonly encountered by artists who wish to participate in festivals and exhibitions.

At this time the Kennedy-Douglass Volunteers are calling for applications from emerging artists of color to be submitted for consideration. Each scholarship recipient will receive a 12’x12’ space in Wilson Park, a 10’x10’ tent (with setup), a table, two chairs, and signage indicating their status as an Arts Alive Emerging Artist of Color.

The Arts Alive festival attracts approximately 10,000 visitors over the course of the weekend. Artists should be prepared to display and sell their work alongside professional artists.
